European Optical: How we started
European Optical has proudly served the New York City community for over 45 years. The practice began as a family business when Dr. Yoonsung Kim’s father started a wholesale optical frame company, supplying quality eyewear to retailers. Recognizing an opportunity to serve patients directly, Dr. Kim’s mother expanded the business by opening a retail optical shop.
Growing up around the practice, Dr. Kim developed an early passion for eye care and the optical field. He first earned his optician’s license and worked alongside his parents before pursuing his doctorate in optometry. Over the decades, Dr. Kim built a reputation for expertise, personalized service, and a deep commitment to the patients and families he cared for throughout the New York City area.
As Dr. Kim finally enters a well-deserved retirement, he proudly passes the legacy of European Optical to Dr. Jenny Lee-Ock. Dr. Lee-Ock is honored to continue the tradition of excellence established by the Kim family and remains dedicated to providing attentive, high-quality eye care to every patient who walks through the door.

With over 40 years of optical expertise in New York City, we have carefully curated a timeless collection of frames from renowned global fashion houses such as Gucci, Christian Dior, and Cartier. We also carry a variety of frames from Korea and Japan.
Our passion for eyewear and personalized service has allowed us to serve clients not only throughout New York City, but from around the world. We are proud to share our thoughtfully selected collection and help each person find frames that reflect their style and vision needs.
